Download YouTube videos as ogg and mp3 audio with this downloader tool. Zenmp3 is Cross-platform and only requires Python to get going!
ZenMP3 also allows you search for music directly from the program; no more need to browse to YouTube to find the URL of the song!
Installation
Please see howto_install.md for more information on dependencies, installation instructions and the lore. Those using Mac can use an install script for convenience.
Compatibility
Zenmp3 has been tested and known to work on the following distributions:
- Linux: Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, Puppy
- Mac OSX Mountain Lion and newer (see install instructions)
While it has run in Windows before, I no longer support it anymore. You are free to try and port it to your tastes, though.
Free Formats
Zenmp3, despite its name, supports the free software formats by downloading music primarily in the OGG audio format. Using OGG has the advantage of providing a high-quality sound format that is actually smaller than MP3. By using OGG, users and developers alike benefit from a file format that is patent-free, and open to anyone who would like to modify it.
Support free formats too! Please consider defaulting to or making exclusive use of free formats in your applications as well.
