As far as I managed to establish after several attempts, it is currently impossible to use memtest86 with osboot, as flashed into minifree.org products. This stands for both the open source memtest86+ and the free-to-use version of the proprietary memtest86. This stands for both a direct memtest86 boot from the in-flash GRUB and an indirect boot via the SeaBIOS payload and an indirect load via on-disk GRUB installed by Debian.

In every case above, after memtest86 loading starts, the laptop no longer updates the screen until the next power-cycle or reset. memtest86+ manages to start and go as far as emitting the startup beep sequence on the PC speaker, but without the screen it is unusable, obviously.

It would be great for fix memtest86 loading in osboot on T440p.

did you use it with corebootfb rom or txtmode?

that board has roms available with either. you should use the txtmode rom. please confirm.

basically if you've got latest firmware and you see the eric cartman face (osboot logo) at boot time, you've got corebootfb. switch to txtmode. txtmode one has no logo

I use osboot as compiled and flashed by you a month ago, and it indeed uses what looks like frame buffer video mode by default. The documentation at osboot.org does not seem to explain how to switch between the two modes, could you clarify?
