Long threads with "Show threads in thread view" enabled can become very cumbersome, especially if you don't need to see all of the older replies. Twitter handles this breaking the reply chain bar with three dots and displaying "X more replies" that can be clicked to show hidden older replies. I suggest only showing the original toot and the last 2 or 3 replies when a reply chain goes over 4 or 5 toots.

Threading is something which should still be optimized,so many things there aren't perfect.
