When composing a toot, I may decide to add emoji after I have finished writing the text.
If I place the cursor in the middle of the toot and select an emoji, that emoji is placed at the end of the toot and not the cursor location. This applies to both custom and default emoji.
It would be better if the emoji was inserted at the cursor location, and not at the end of the toot.

I agree that it would be better the way you describe it.
I often have the same problem and copy and paste it to the correct position then.
As far as I know it's not that easy to insert a text at a specified position so I just append the emoji code to the existing text currently.
Anyway I'll try my best to improve that in 2.2.1 (2.2.0 is already taking too long,won't add even more stuff there).
