Whenever I see a toot that includes a webm and try to play it, i'll only be able to see the video, but won't be able to hear any sound.

I've confirmed this is an issue with Halcyon and not Mastodon itself since both video and audio play fine on the respective original toot page of the Mastodon instance the toot was posted on.

Example toot: https://gameliberty.club/@matrix/101081938663360417

In Halcyon: https://i.robflop.me/fvk7kTGG.webm, tested on https://halcyon.anoxinon.de/

In addition to the audio not playing, the player sometimes breaks completely (see how it flashed green for a tiny bit, sometimes it completely goes green and you have to reload Halcyon).

I think it'd be best if the player that is used on the Mastodon instance page was ported over to Halcyon, since that one works great.

Thank you very much for reporting this. The current video player is mainly meant for animated GIFs which are converted to video files by Mastodon. They don't need controls and audio. There is a completely new player planned for the next version with more features and audio support which will hopefully solve this problem for you. Mastodons player can't be used in Halcyon. It's a component of the React.js framework which is used everywhere in Mastodons user interface but not in Halcyon.
