This is a feature, that I also miss at the tootsuite. There previews of linked pages, are only shown at the single post detail view, but not at the timeline.
At halycon, the preview is only shown within the notification list, so handling OGP / twitter cards / ... is already implemented.
This will allow users to get an easy summary of the linked reference, without visiting the linked page manually. If this could be disabled within the settings, nobody could complain about visual clutter.

That's wrong,on Halcyon these previews are shown in every timeline,on all profiles and in the notifications if you want that.
Probably there's a problem with your Mastodon instance (previews are fetched over the Mastodon API) or the links in your public timelines aren't good.
Some links don't give information to the Mastodon API,in this case it looks like the feature link previews is disabled,there isn't an error,it just doesn't show up.
You can already disable this feature in settings -> appearance by disabling link previews.
