The feature works but you have to enable the locale on your server.
Edit /etc/locale.gen and enable en_US,ja_JP,de_DE,pt_BR,pl_PL and ko_KR and then run locale-gen.
Now all supported languages should be available on your server.
I know that this doesn't make much sense but it's a weird limitation of the PHP gettext() function.
