  8. Hello everyone! It's that time of the year again, and many people
  9. are considering: who they are going to donate to this year?
  10. </p>
  11. <p>
  12. If you are a supporter of computing freedom, there are a lot of great
  13. places to put your money. The <a href="http://fsf.org/">FSF</a> and
  14. <a href="https://www.eff.org/">EFF</a> are great places, and
  15. probably the most commonly recommended (also worth your money!),
  16. though this year I'm going to suggest you also consider the
  17. <a href="http://sfconservancy.org/">Software Freedom Conservancy</a>.
  18. They just launched a
  19. <a href="http://sfconservancy.org/supporter/">membership program</a>
  20. today, and I recommend you join. I just did!
  21. </p>
  22. <p class="centered">
  23. <a href="https://sfconservancy.org/supporter/"><img src="https://sfconservancy.org/img/supporter-badge.png" width="194" height="90" alt="Become a Conservancy Supporter!" border="0" /></a>
  24. </p>
  25. <p>
  26. Whether you realize it or not, you probably depend day to day on
  27. some software that Conservancy helps support... which it turns out
  28. is a lot: <a href="http://www.git-scm.org/">Git</a>,
  29. <a href="http://www.inkscape.org/">Inkscape</a>,
  30. <a href="http://www.selenic.com/mercurial/wiki/">Mercurial</a>,
  31. <a href="http://www.winehq.org/">Wine</a>,
  32. <a href="http://www.busybox.net/">BusyBox</a>... these are just a
  33. few of the
  34. <a href="http://sfconservancy.org/members/current/">many projects</a>
  35. that are members of Conservancy. And Conservancy does
  36. <a href="http://sfconservancy.org/members/services/">a lot of stuff</a>
  37. for their member projects! (Not to mention a number of things that
  38. benefit free software that don't even hit that list, including
  39. Conservancy employees spreading information on best practices and
  40. participating in efforts to protect the legal freedoms of all free
  41. software... I recommend subscribing to Bradley Kuhn and Karen
  42. Sandler's podcast <a href="http://faif.us/">Free as in Freedom</a>...
  43. I've learned a lot from there, and am learning more all the time!)
  44. What I'm trying to say here is: donating to Conservancy is a real
  45. bang for your buck. :)
  46. </p>
  47. <p>
  48. So this holiday season, join me in helping
  49. <a href="http://sfconservancy.org/supporter/">make Software Freedom Conservancy's membership program a success</a>!
  50. Your user freedoms will thank you for it!
