8. So this post is, like the story below, kind of a dumb distraction
9. while I should be doing (or even blogging) more important things, but
10. maybe it's entertaining?
11. I may have borrowed a joke from
12. The Thrilling Adventure Hour.
13. Anyway I don't really know what's the point in posting this aside from
14. demonstrating that I am down to narratively improvise, any time, any place
15. (given the appropriate story cues at least).
16. This starts off with a conversation with my friend
17. Sumana on IRC.
18.

19.

20. <sumanah> hi paroneayea -- hope you are doing well
21. <sumanah> paroneayea: you may find this amusing -- I ran across this Noun
22. Project "collection" and distracted Jason for a few minutes as we
23. tried to suss out the theme
24. https://thenounproject.com/petervandriel/collection/an-icon-i-need-tomorrow/

32. <paroneayea> sumanah: hi!
33. <paroneayea> sumanah: wow
34. <sumanah> paroneayea: YES
35. <sumanah> what is happening tomorrow?
36. <sumanah> the world must know
37. <paroneayea> sumanah: I can only imagine a sexy murder cover-up with an office
38. intrigue
39. <sumanah> paroneayea: the insect? the egg?
40. <sumanah> I want a grand unified theory here
41. <sumanah> maybe it's like Upstream Color
42. <paroneayea> Two coworkers, who are secretly lovers, meet and exchange
43. "documents". (It is a plan, a plan for murder.)
44. <paroneayea> An elderly relative dies. Their walker is found alone.
45. <paroneayea> "The act is done", he whispered, passing by her desk.
46. <paroneayea> Drive to dump the body. The body is dumped.
47. <paroneayea> Sexy "ha ha it's over" scene.
48. <paroneayea> "Can we keep our relationship a secret?"
49. <paroneayea> Beware, the watercooler talk!
50. <paroneayea> Three construction workers return to their job and discuss, why
51. did our construction equipment move
52. * cdonnelly is on the edge of her seat
53. <paroneayea> [Combining two:] With any luck, the scheme won't break.
54. <paroneayea> Back, meeting at the lovers' home, dinner is cooking on the stove
55. as the couple talks about their life together.
56. <paroneayea> Suddenly, a call from the royal guard; "Madam, did you know that
57. your Relative(TM)/Former Lover has died????"
58. <paroneayea> The woman, mid-lipstick application, pauses.
59. <paroneayea> She drops the egg, which she was about to crack into the pot. It
60. breaks, symbolically revealing the break in their plan.
61. <paroneayea> She accidentally brushes against the pound key. "Madam are you
62. there? Madam?"
63. <paroneayea> "Yes sorry, I'm writing down the address. Yes, I'll be there in
64. half an hour."
65. <paroneayea> The phone is hung up, she is afraid. "Calm down, let's finish
66. our dinner first." They eat.
67. <paroneayea> Then they get ready to leave. She loads her lipstick, which also
68. happened to be a bullet, into her gun.
69. <paroneayea> (gosh this is getting hard)
70. * sumanah was wondering whether paroneayea was going to notice that the icon
71. looks like a lipstick but is labelled as a bullet
72. <paroneayea> (I already noticed, I tried to do "her lipstick, which is also a
73. bullet" but got lazy then)
74. * sumanah wonders: a safe deposit box? a self-storage locker?
75. <paroneayea> He locks the household, and on the way out, makes sure that the
76. key to the safe is still there.
77. <paroneayea> Now they are back at the construction site.
78. <paroneayea> The police officer is taking down the record. Uhuh, yes. Uhuh,
79. that sounds about right.
80. <paroneayea> As the record goes on, their story fills the page but also begins
81. to unravel.
82. * cdonnelly gasps
83. <paroneayea> The man nervously thumbs through his keys, and then drops them.
84. The officer says, "Hold on, you dropped your keys sir, let me
85. pick those up for you..." when he picks them up, he sees one key
86. in particular... encrusted in blood.
87. <paroneayea> "Wait a minute... 5608... this is.. exactly the key to the safe
88. of the man who died recently!" "That can't be it, hold on a
89. minute..." "I'm calling this in.. sir and madam you're under
90. arrest..."
91. <paroneayea> The woman pulls the gun out of her makeup bag. "Don't make me
92. shoot! I've loaded this with lipstick and I'm dangerous!"
93. <paroneayea> * (But BAM BAM, it went off! A bullet case / lipstick container,
94. labeled Checkov's Cosmetics, falls ominously to the floor.)
95. <paroneayea> They run! Into the sewers. A cockroach scatters out of the way.
96. <paroneayea> Squeak! A Rat darts right out of the way, just in time. "I
97. can't take any more of this. I won't soil my suit running into
98. this sewer any more!" "Damnit Jim, if you run out you'll give us
99. all away!" "I don't care Janice!" (I guess they have names
100. now.)
101. * cdonnelly giggles
102. * sumanah suspects a particular thing is going to happen next
103. * jasonaowen too
104. <paroneayea> "I won't let you do this! I've worked too hard for this damnit!"
105. A gun is pulled! A shot is fired! The man falls to the floor,
106. gasping for breath! "If I'm going down, you're going down with
107. me!" The woman cries out in pain, and falls to the floor dying
108. as well... but what could have possibly killed her?
109. <paroneayea> The scene cuts to outside. The police have pulled the bodies out
110. of the sewer. "Gosh, this whole thing got complicated really
111. fast. It sure did end quickly though. What could have possibly
112. cut this whole series of narrative devices down all at once?"
113. "Take a look at this Harry." What's that sticking out of her
114. chest? Oh of course... the murder weapon..." <cotd>
115. <paroneayea> The guard seals the razor, which had cut it all down at once,
116. into a plastic bag. "Occam's Razor company... it always seems to
117. bring a quick end to stories like these..."
118. <paroneayea> FIN
119. * sumanah applauds
120. * cdonnelly applauds
121. <paroneayea> brought to you by I have played way too many fucking RPGs
122. <jasonaowen> paroneayea: https://i.imgur.com/e9U73gy.gifv
123. <paroneayea> If nobody minds I'm going to post this on my blog or something,
124. might as well get a blogpost out of that distraction ;)
125. <jasonaowen> paroneayea: please do :)
126. <cdonnelly> paroneayea: +1 to blog post
127. <sumanah> paroneayea: I was like "I think today I have materially delayed the
128. development of ActivityPub" so I would encourage you to post it
129. <paroneayea> sumanah: haha :)
