Not quite. You can upgrade your plan but keep your $300 of free credit. You can then a) use whatever operating system you'd like and b) attach a GPU if you request it for free until you consume your $300 in credit (at which point, you can create a new GCP account with the same credit card and transfer over the GCP project).

OK, so I enabled Hyper-V and rebooted (see picture), but I still get detected for VM.

I am passing through my GPU so my graphics device won’t probably be something like `VMware SVGA`; however, given the fact that the registry is based on what the OS reports, other devices may trip the VM detection. Thanks for the insight @Raymonf :)
