  1. Postal Plus
  2. ===========
  3. Postal Plus is basically the latest version of the code (which adds new
  4. features and improvements) with the original Postal levels along with
  5. the Special Delivery evels.
  6. The basic method for getting here was to start with the "Postal Japan"
  7. product and remove the japanese levels, characters and voices.
  8. Changes since Super Postal (Japan versions)
  9. ------------------------------------------
  10. Did a "share and branch" of the "Meister Japan" SourceSafe project to
  11. create the "Meister Plus" SourceSafe project. The new project was labeled
  12. "From Meister Japan" to make it easier to see where the differences are.
  13. It also makes it possible to rebuild the Postal Japan products from this
  14. code base.
  15. Added projects for Super Postal and Japan Add On. They seem to work, but
  16. unfortunately the final exe does not match the exe that was released to
  17. Japan. At least one reason for the difference is that the error messages
  18. were changed and that affects all targets. There may be other such
  19. differences, but I'm not sure what they are and I didn't have time now
  20. to try to work it all out.
  21. Changed the workspace (.dsw) and project (.dsp) files to use the new
  22. Postal Plus sourcesafe project. This was a huge pain-in-the-ass.
  23. Removed the no-longer-uesful Alpha processor build targets.
  24. Added new icons to the resources, and instituted a new method for selecting
  25. which icon will be used on a per-project basis. In the Project Settings,
  26. the Resources tab contains a field for "Preprocessor Definitions". Enter
  27. the name of the TARGET, such as "POSTAL_PLUS" or "SUPER POSTAL" and the
  28. appropriate icon will be used (do NOT use TARGET=POSTAL PLUS, which will
  29. not work). When adding a new icon, simply define a "Condition" by
  30. specifying the target for which the icon is intended.
  31. Added START_MENU_ADDON_ITEM macro to control whether an additional item
  32. is added to the single-player START menu. Previously, the inclusion of
  33. the additional menu item was based on the TARGET macro, which was more
  34. difficult to maintain.
  35. Added TITLE_SHOW_DISTRIBUTOR macro to control whether the distributor
  36. screen is show during the title sequence.
  37. Added conditional compilation sections to remove the Japanese characters
  38. and their voices. They are now only included if TARGET is set to either
  39. of the Japanese products.
  40. Removed an unwanted trace from SampleMaster.h (was previously added to
  41. determine the value for MAX_SOUNDS).
  42. Changed the Postal Plus MP project ("SPAWN") to use Pentium instead of
  43. "Blend" for code generation (a left-over setting from long ago). Also
  44. changed the executable name from "pspawn" to "Postal Plus MP".
  45. Added REQUIRE_POSTAL_CD macro to differentiate the test for the original
  46. Postal CD from the test to see if the CD= path specifies a CD-ROM drive.
  47. If the MUST_BE_ON_CD macro is used in debug mode, then even if the CD
  48. path is not a CD-ROM drive, the program will be allowed to continue
  49. after displaying the error message.
  50. Added AUDIO_SAK_SEPARATOR_CHAR macro to allow easy setting of the
  51. separator. The Japanese products use a "j" instead of the original "_"
  52. so as to differentiate the Japanese-language sak files from the
  53. original English saks.
  54. Moved the definition of the APP_NAME and PREFS_FILE macros into
  55. CompileOptions.h, which should make it easier to maintain.
  56. Made major changes to the error messages in Localize.cpp. The general
  57. intention was to reduce the verbage and instead refer the user to the
  58. help files for detailed information on resolving the problems.
  59. In several places, changed to using the ENGLISH_LOCALE macro instead of
  60. a series of tests for specific LOCALE's.
  61. Added MAIN_MENU_TITLE macro to control the text that is displayed at
  62. the top of the game's main menu. The value is set in CompileOptions.h
  63. based on TARGET, LOCALE, etc.
  64. Discovered strings that had not been properly converted into French or
  65. German and took a rough stab at what they should have been. This was
  66. deemed to be better than what they had been set to, which was something
  67. like "RETRANSLATE: ORIGINAL LEVELS".
