  1. Asterisk is distributed under the GNU General Public License version 2
  2. and is also available under alternative licenses negotiated directly
  3. with Digium, Inc. If you obtained Asterisk under the GPL, then the GPL
  4. applies to all loadable Asterisk modules used on your system as well,
  5. except as defined below. The GPL (version 2) is included in this
  6. source tree in the file COPYING.
  7. Digium, Inc. (formerly Linux Support Services) holds copyright
  8. and/or sufficient licenses to all components of the Asterisk
  9. package, and therefore can grant, at its sole discretion, the ability
  10. for companies, individuals, or organizations to create proprietary or
  11. Open Source (even if not GPL) modules which may be dynamically linked at
  12. runtime with the portions of Asterisk which fall under our
  13. copyright/license umbrella, or are distributed under more flexible
  14. licenses than GPL.
  15. If you wish to use our code in other GPL programs, don't worry --
  16. there is no requirement that you provide the same exception in your
  17. GPL'd products (although if you've written a module for Asterisk we
  18. would strongly encourage you to make the same exception that we do).
  19. Specific permission is also granted to link Asterisk with OpenSSL and
  20. OpenH323.
  21. In addition, Asterisk implements two management/control protocols: the
  22. Asterisk Manager Interface (AMI) and the Asterisk Gateway Interface
  23. (AGI). It is our belief that applications using these protocols to
  24. manage or control an Asterisk instance do not have to be licensed
  25. under the GPL or a compatible license, as we believe these protocols
  26. do not create a 'derivative work' as referred to in the GPL. However,
  27. should any court or other judiciary body find that these protocols do
  28. fall under the terms of the GPL, then we hereby grant you a license to
  29. use these protocols in combination with Asterisk in external
  30. applications licensed under any license you wish.
  31. The 'Asterisk' name and logos are trademarks owned by Digium, Inc.,
  32. and use of them is subject to our trademark licensing policies. If you
  33. wish to use these trademarks for purposes other than simple
  34. redistribution of Asterisk source code obtained from Digium, you
  35. should contact our licensing department to determine the necessary
  36. steps you must take.
