14. Michael Guy Bowman:
15. Experimental aircraft, lost civilizations, mythic quests, the Philippines, true love, utter loss, and the transience of life - the many subjects of Ithaca, the first independently released Bowman album. Scattergun in its genre and chaotically retro in its fashion, Ithaca is an eclectic mix of songs both personal and abstract. Bowman once again brings his familiar voice and ever-changing production style along with several friends from the Homestuck music project and elsewhere. Ithaca is calling.
16. After spending years making music exclusively for Homestuck, I branched out with 2012’s Ithaca, my first independently released album. Following up on my album-within-a-web-comic [[album:mobius-trip-and-hadron-kaleido]], I moved away from my palette of digital synths to focus on a classic rock style. Out come the guitars, the bass, the little toy harp. Shades of Eno, Bowie, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, even a swing tune. It’s a freaky affair.
17. The ideas came from everywhere. There’s a song based on something I heard in a dream when I was eight years old, ([[Old Buggy Now]]). There’s one about an engineer who falls in love with an experimental aircraft ([[Tacit Blue]]). There’s a carriage ride through a Manila’s Chinatown district ([[Kalesa In Binondo]]). The title track [[Ithaca]] recalls Odysseus, a bowman himself. All of it is peppered with guest contributions from Internet friends.

24. Riding through the night like a jaded vagabond
25. No one else in sight I could be the only one
26. Hear me radio, play the song I know
27. Take me where I long to go
28. 'Cause there’s nobody nobody now
29. Who can hear me or stop me now
30. In this old buggy old buggy now
31. In this old buggy old buggy now
32. Guided by the stars burning up petroleum
33. Here inside my car I could be the only one
34. Somewhere in the sky a satellite on high
35. Watches with its lonely eye

47. Lyrics: |
48. Long before there was you and I
49. The ancient ones lived in the sky
50. A kingdom built upon the stars
51. A million tiny points of light
52. Do you ever wonder where they’ve gone?
53. Don’t you ever wonder why?
54. The ancient ones they rose and fell
55. For reasons that we just can’t tell
56. Cataclysm - maybe so
57. Perhaps we’re just not meant to know
58. Empire never lasts or so it seems
59. But some say they’re still with us in our dreams
60. Ascending off to god knows where the ancient ones took parole
61. Legend says they were running from a force beyond their control
62. And the kingdom that was left behind
63. Was turned to dust from which mankind
64. Did first emerge like cinders up from the coal
65. And you and I we are the ash
66. Of demons slain and cities smashed
67. The ancient ones they reached too far
68. And thus for now the world is ours
69. And though it’s just a legend so they say
70. Perhaps they will return again someday

79. Lyrics: |
80. Your weak young heart keeps playing its part for show
81. And though you never say never you never say yes or no
82. Even if you never grow up you’ll still grow old
83. So why do the warmest welcomes leave you cold?
84. Dust in the shadows, smoke in your eyes
85. Heart full of anger, head full of lies
86. There’s no way of knowing which way you’re going
87. But at least you’re free, at least you're free
88. So when the wind is blowing and the stars aren’t showing
89. You can come with me, come with me
90. Your weak young heart is resting safe and sound
91. But the child you were is nowhere to be found
92. Well I’ve read in books that most folks feel this way
93. But the game cannot resume 'til you press play
94. No place to run to, no use pretending
95. Life in this moment, not in its ending

105. Back in the lab I’m running the test
106. If you won’t fly then I won’t rest
107. Turbines turning in the tunnel of love
108. Upon that perch sits my dove
109. Built for stealth like a silent blade
110. My cobalt queen adorned in jade
111. Navy seal but Air Force-made
112. Please be true, the things you’ll do
113. Tacit Blue
114. Hear my siren sound her bell
115. Your heart belongs to someone else
116. Sapphire spy you were built for war
117. My best girl a government whore
118. I should have known that’s what you’d be
119. I set you up they set you free
120. How could you do this to me?
121. Like a shrew the tramp just flew
122. Tacit Blue
123. Years go by and I get no sign
124. Until one day by chance I find
125. Blackbird, Valkyrie standing in place
126. Between their wings - familiar face
127. Oblong dame - a museum piece
128. Eternally posed for eyes that feast
129. Home at last with cousin and niece
130. But once I knew the other you

140. I'm just a good machine
141. You turn me on and I’ll get by
142. But you’re just like gasoline
143. You burn right up until you’re dry, oh why?
144. I don’t want to have to hold your hand
145. But you have always been unpredictable, bless your soul
146. Why can’t you see?
147. You are a rodeo clown
148. Does that not get you down?
149. We only keep you around for a laugh
150. But i just can’t help but frown
151. Do you just like to be hurt?
152. You see the danger and flirt
153. And they laugh while you’re face down in the dirt
154. Does that just get you high?
155. Making a good friend cry
156. I’d stay but I’m not gonna watch you die
157. I sometimes envy you
158. There’s magic each time you arrive
159. But i just can’t get into you
160. You never live you just survive, oh why?
161. I just want to walk by your side
162. But you have always walked on the tightest rope
163. Is there no hope?
164. Why can’t you see?

172. \ never saw cerulean skies\nOr the light of the truth behind the lies\nI never\
173. \ received, I only took\nFrom the few pages left of every un-burned book\n\nI\
174. \ never once saw time well-spent\nOr a wise man who was not hell-bent\nI never\

193. Lyrics: |
194. Somewhere in a jungle grove a candle burns denoting Saint Therese
195. A prayer that those we’ve left behind are troubled not with heart and mind at peace
196. Nurse attending close at hand with wine to cast its old familiar spell
197. An elder soul looks into you but cannot speak in things the tongue can tell
198. I’m sorry I forgot your name
199. I only have myself to blame
200. If you were me you’d do the same
201. Somewhere in this downward race
202. A person, name, a thing, or place
203. Solution to my endless chase
204. I’m sure I’d recognize its face
205. Though I forget myself
206. I’m sure there’s something else
207. I’ll come around
208. I'll make the sound
209. The noun
210. In my car I’m on my way from where I live to where you are right now
211. And though I’ve been here many times it seems as though it all has changed somehow
212. I’m sure I’ve seen this busy road a million times or was it in my sleep?
213. My minivan was in the sky, but never mind - I’m thinking far too deep
214. Familiar signs have gone away
215. I’m sure if it was not today
216. I’d be there now - I'd find my way

222. Lyrics: |
223. I spent the best years of my life waiting
224. For this moment
225. A time to call my own, a place to call my homeland
226. It’s come here far too soon
227. I sit around my room
228. Hatching my plans and schemes I mostly leave forgotten
229. I spent my longest nights awake wondering through the outside
230. Amused but still deranged, divided on the inside
231. Returning to the core
232. The place I can’t ignore
233. The wonder behind the fear I just can’t seem to shake off
234. Oo-ee-oo
235. To dream or do
236. To do or die
237. To sink or fly
238. Oo-ee-oo
239. To get a clue
240. To run and hide
241. To laugh and cry
242. I turned my back on battles won and sailed to new adventure
243. The journey made by all, a lonely mortal tenure
244. To Ithaca I sailed
245. And though I have not failed
246. My home is a fleeting camp, the journey’s just beginning
247. I spent the morning hours awake writing down the lyrics
248. Resolved to get it right - to capture the true spirit
249. Although I sing along
250. That moment now has gone
251. My heart still a restless sea where Ithaca is calling

269. Moving on is hard
270. The more I fight the more I have to lose
271. From the very start
272. I should have known there would not be a use
273. Underneath it all
274. I’m sure it’s no one’s fault (feels like it’s my fault)
275. Why bother to explain?
276. There’s nothing left to gain (I need someone to blame)
277. No time for regrets
278. Repenting leaves you stranded in the past
279. And though I've lost my bets
280. I should have known the good times never last
281. Underneath it all
282. I was always bound to fall (I’m just so scared to fall)
283. Behind the blood and tears
284. I’ve been running dry for years (running from my fears)
285. If you only could have seen
286. All the things we could have been
287. If I could have only shown you
288. I would have known that you know what I really mean

302. Lyrics: |
303. Tangled in the ropes that have strangled
304. All the hopes that were dangled in front of my eyes
305. But when I'm near you, I have nothing to fear
306. You make life oh-so-clear, you cut right through the lies
307. Somwhere, from the crack of the sun there
308. I'd be working for one share bemused and alone
309. But your love is the fast and the sure love
310. Which keeps me feeling pure, love, each time I come home
311. 'Cause if my kind of home is really your kind of home
312. Then what reason have I to roam?
313. Lonely days, humid nights
314. When I go to turn out all the lights
315. I only know you, love, will still be my true love
316. To have and to hold all my own
317. For without you I guess I'd just roam
318. My life is a head-in-the-sky life
319. And I still wonder why life seems strange and unknown
320. But when we're together, no matter the weather
321. I feel that much better, like I've just come home
322. 'Cause if my kind of home is really your kind of home
323. Then what reason have I to roam?
