  1. dwm - dynamic window manager
  2. ============================
  3. dwm is an extremely fast, small, and dynamic window manager for X.
  4. Requirements
  5. ------------
  6. In order to build dwm you need the Xlib header files.
  7. Installation
  8. ------------
  9. Edit config.mk to match your local setup (dwm is installed into
  10. the /usr/local namespace by default).
  11. Afterwards enter the following command to build and install dwm (if
  12. necessary as root):
  13. make clean install
  14. If you are going to use the default bluegray color scheme it is highly
  15. recommended to also install the bluegray files shipped in the dextra package.
  16. Running dwm
  17. -----------
  18. Add the following line to your .xinitrc to start dwm using startx:
  19. exec dwm
  20. In order to connect dwm to a specific display, make sure that
  21. the DISPLAY environment variable is set correctly, e.g.:
  22. DISPLAY=foo.bar:1 exec dwm
  23. (This will start dwm on display :1 of the host foo.bar.)
  24. In order to display status info in the bar, you can do something
  25. like this in your .xinitrc:
  26. while xsetroot -name "`date` `uptime | sed 's/.*,//'`"
  27. do
  28. sleep 1
  29. done &
  30. exec dwm
  31. Configuration
  32. -------------
  33. The configuration of dwm is done by creating a custom config.h
  34. and (re)compiling the source code.
