  34. .SH DESCRIPTION
  35. .PP
  36. .I Xdpyinfo
  37. is a utility for displaying information about an X server. It is used to
  38. examine the
  39. capabilities of a server, the predefined values for various parameters used
  40. in communicating between clients and the server, and the different types of
  41. screens and visuals that are available.
  42. .PP
  43. By default, numeric information (opcode, base event, base error) about
  44. protocol extensions is not displayed. This information can be obtained
  45. with the \fB\-queryExtensions\fP option. Use of this option on servers
  46. that dynamically load extensions will likely cause all possible extensions
  47. to be loaded, which can be slow and can consume significant server resources.
  48. .PP
  49. Detailed information about a particular extension is displayed with the
  50. \fB\-ext\fP \fIextensionName\fP option. If \fIextensionName\fP is
  51. \fBall\fP, information about all extensions supported by both \fIxdpyinfo\fP
  52. and the server is displayed.
  53. .PP
  54. If \fB-version\fP is specified, xdpyinfo prints its version and exits, without
  55. contacting the X server.
  56. .SH ENVIRONMENT
  57. .PP
