README

# 5srdnd

This is a version of the System Reference Document from Wizards of the Coast for the Dungeons & Dragons™ roleplaying game.
The text is extracted from the official PDF, with all tables reformatted as bulleted lists.

This diverges from the official Player's Handbook because it adds third party feats, spells, backgrounds, and character options.
Most players are happy to use third party options, but be aware that some spells and character options are missing from this version, compared to the Player's Handbook.
Think of this document as the free basic rules plus some third party options to offset what's missing.

## Why this document

I use this document when introducing players to my favourite (and the world's first) RPG.
It is not intended to replace a copy of the PHB, but it's a great stopgap before a player is able to [purchase the actual book](https://dnd.wizards.com/products/tabletop-games/rpg-products/rpg_playershandbook).

This document is also more accessible than a PDF for low-vision and blind players.

## How to use this document

This document is primarily intended to be used as a plain text document.
There are some scripts to help convert it to an EPUB and PDF, but these are mainly examples that have hastily been thrown together and probably only work on my setup.
I don't intend to improve the build scripts, because my primary target is plain text.
