7. FSF distributes, on 3.5 inch 1.44MB diskettes, some of the GNU software
8. that has been ported to MS-DOS. The disks have both sources and
9. executables.

13. Demacs is a version of GNU Emacs 18.55 ported to MS-DOS, with some
14. changes from Emacs 18.57. Two versions are actually included--one
15. which handles 8-bit character sets, and one, based on Nemacs, which
16. handles 16-bit character sets, including Kanji. FSF distributes it on
17. five diskettes.
18.

19. Demacs runs on Intel 80386 and 80486--based machines running MS-DOS.
20. It is compatible with XMS memory managers and VCPI, but not with
21. Microsoft Windows extended mode or other DPMI managers.

25. DJGPP is a complete port of GCC, libraries, development utilities, and a
26. symbolic debugger, for Intel 80386 and 80486--based machines running
27. MS-DOS. FSF distributes it on four diskettes.
28.

29. DJGPP requires at least 5MB of hard disk space to install, and 512K of
30. RAM to use. It is compatible with XMS memory managers and VCPI, but
31. not with Microsoft Windows extended mode or other DPMI managers. It
32. cannot emulate multitasking (e.g. the Unix
fork
system call) or
33. signals.

37. The GNUish MS-DOS Project releases GNU software ported to PC
38. compatibles. In general, this software will run on 8086 and
39. 80286--based machines; a 80386 not required. Some of these utilities
40. are necessarily missing features. FSF distributes it on a set of
41. diskettes.
