  10. <a href="/pages/campaign.html"
  11. ><img src="/blog_images/campaign_success.png"
  12. alt="MediaGoblin campaign a success!" /></a>
  13. </p>
  14. <p>
  15. So <a href="/pages/campaign.html">this happened</a>. To say "we are
  16. floored with the success of the campaign and the community support
  17. we've received" would be a huge understatement. We made the call to
  18. arms to fight for federation and privacy features on the web, and
  19. you answered.
  20. </p>
  21. <p>
  22. Like an adventure movie, the stakes were high, at times we weren't
  23. sure we were going to make it, but there was excitement abound and
  24. in the end, we were victorious. We surpassed not
  25. <a href="/news/passed-first-milestone-and-10k-matching.html">one</a>
  26. but <a href="/news/last-day-of-campaign-second-milestone-in.html">two
  27. milestones</a> and met a
  28. <a href="/news/passed-first-milestone-and-10k-matching.html">10k matching grant</a>
  29. (the final thing putting us over the top of that last one, by the
  30. way, was cashing in our Bitcoins).
  31. We gave a complete and total
  32. <a href="/news/financial-transparency.html">financial transparency breakdown</a>,
  33. and you responded with appreciation.
  34. We came to the <a href="/news/one-week-left-on-campaign.html">last week of the campaign</a>
  35. at 67% of the way to the second milestone... still a ways to go... could we do it?
  36. And we did! Or we should say, <i>YOU</i> did. You made this possible.
  37. </p>
  38. <p>
  39. But that's hardly the end of our adventure... the fundraising
  40. campaign is over, but the most the most exciting times are ahead of
  41. us. Let's look at just what you all have succeeded in unlocking
  42. here:
  43. </p>
  44. <p class="centered">
  45. <a href="/pages/campaign.html"
  46. ><img src="/blog_images/campaign_milestone_1.png"
  47. alt="First milestone details" /></a>
  48. <br />
  49. <a href="/pages/campaign.html"
  50. ><img src="/blog_images/campaign_milestone_2.png"
  51. alt="Second milestone details" /></a>
  52. </p>
  53. <p>
  54. Wow, feature-wise that is a lot of stuff! From federation, to
  55. private media sharing, to PyPump development, to podcast
  56. support... that's a lot of features alone. And I'm sure we're all
  57. excited about the 1.0 release ahead! You've funded all of this,
  58. which means we are getting to work on it. We'll be sure to be
  59. making updates as we move forward with implementing it all.
  60. </p>
  61. <p>
  62. There are more exciting updates on the way, also. Two of the things
  63. unlocked we'll be making more announcements over the next couple of
  64. weeks, but we are preparing for them to make sure we can pull them
  65. off in a way that's best for everyone. The first of these is the
  66. "donor chosen feature". We're going to give donors a list of
  67. significant features to choose from, but we want to make sure we
  68. have a list of things that's both feasible and interesting to pull
  69. off.
  70. </p>
  71. <p>
  72. The second is the premium hosting reward. This got unlocked as a
  73. reward option just barely a day before the campaign ended. We
  74. thought it would be pretty crazy (and unfair) to offer this option
  75. right before the end of the campaign and then only give people a few
  76. hours to select them, so here's what we're doing instead:
  77. the main rewards from the campaign are now closed down (you can still
  78. <a href="https://crm.fsf.org/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&id=36">donate if you like</a>),
  79. but very shortly we're going to open things up again, but with
  80. <i>only</i> premium hosting as an option. We think this is the best
  81. route for everyone: it will allow us to properly plan out the reward
  82. in a way that works well, and it will give people a chance to
  83. actually opt in to the reward.
  84. </p>
  85. <p>
  86. So, that's plenty to keep looking forward to! Keep your eyes here
  87. for more updates on the above!
  88. </p>
  89. <p>
  90. Last of all, what about all the rewards you all ordered? The plan
  91. is that we will begin delivering on those over the summer in order
  92. to maximize reward delivery with actual project productivity. My
  93. spouse Morgan Lemmer-Webber will (very kindly) be assisting with
  94. reward fulfillment over the summer, in-between her research
  95. projects. We realize some of you may be eager to get your rewards,
  96. but hopefully you'll be happy to realize this means we'll be able to
  97. optimize time between getting those out and getting work done on the
  98. real stuff you funded: MediaGoblin itself!
  99. </p>
  100. <p>
  101. So, that's a lot to look forward to. We hope you're as excited as
  102. we are as we step into this new era of MediaGoblin development. And
  103. there are surely more exciting things to announce along the way.
  104. </p>
  105. <p>
  106. In the meanwhile, it's worth repeating: thank you to everyone who
  107. supported the <a href="/pages/campaign.html">campaign</a>. We're
  108. tackling some ambitious stuff here in MediaGoblin-land with the
  109. end-goal being nothing short of paving the way for a better
  110. internet. Thanks for helping us make that possible, and joining us
  111. on this journey. We couldn't do it without you.
