  1. an old bunk house built for two
  2. 2020-01-23
  3. ***
  4. your love is a rain-soaked roof
  5. sheltered and framed by trees as proof
  6. that the forest still sees you as one of its own
  7. the throned cabin you rest upon
  8. you've been vacant of human attention for years
  9. and your water pipes have dried up, and so have your tears
  10. vines laced with emerald, envy creeping up your spine
  11. choking the life and the love that I used to call mine
  12. your mouth opens, inviting inside
  13. the animals seeking shelter to hide
  14. but the mold has settled deep in your bones
  15. so the animals leave, disgusted; you sit there alone
  16. eventually the rot will reach your mind too
  17. and not even sun's gentle touch will be able to soothe,
  18. outstretched in good grace with gentle cleansing in tow,
  19. the corpse of a heart that once so violently glowed
