  4. Please, my love, come home unharmed.
  5. It's been almost a month since I
  6. found you injured, limping, on a farm
  7. half-familiar, glowing hearth.
  8. We've been here before- or, at least, I have,
  9. wandering in sprawling fields
  10. trying to find homebound path.
  11. Because isn't that
  12. what this is all about?
  13. Trying to find the way back home
  14. despite all those who've declared
  15. themselves roadblocks, obstacles.
  16. Each of us condemned to roam,
  17. sometimes aimless, usually on our own,
  18. no one to ask us how we fare.
  19. The bloodlust of my youth has faded away.
  20. I've grown sick of conflict, of battles, of war.
  21. How can anyone think cold-blooded murder holds glamour?
  22. I'm sick as an invalid
  23. two steps in the grave
  24. of every moment worrying if you're okay.
  25. "If there was a path
  26. out of this heartbreak
  27. without suffering any pain,
  28. believe me,
  29. Lethe,
  30. I'd take it in a single breath."
  31. I'd rather die
  32. than live a thousand lives
  33. safe but absent from your light.
  34. But there's nothing I can do
  35. as you ascend the campus clock tower
  36. with staff in hand,
  37. ready and prepared to make a last stand.
  38. "I need you to know I feel the same.
  39. Truth be told, I always have.
  40. I've got a bad limp, but if I get my way,
  41. you won't have to wait
  42. much longer."
