  1. You Can't Go Home Again
  2. 2021-07-16

  4. "Come summer, there will be as much sun
  5. as anyone
  6. could ever want,
  7. and you will have
  8. all the time in the world
  9. to open a book and let the pages unfurl."
  10. But I doubt summer will ever come,
  11. for the winds tug at my hair,
  12. and the rain waits for no one,
  13. and I have now lost more than a year
  14. to someone else's mistake,
  15. to a whole lot of someone elses' fear.
  16. Can I fight against my nature?
  17. Can I resign myself to torture
  18. self-baden, self-scarred,
  19. severed by far
  20. from the home
  21. that is myth,
  22. that was never my own?
  23. I carry within this body an unspeakable name
  24. pointing to where lies eternal spring,
  25. where I could never return
  26. having earned
  27. failure's shame
  28. and the enmity
  29. of the deity
  30. I only ever yearned
  31. to be friends with.
  32. Only in these books
  33. can I unfurl my wings,
  34. can I step once more
  35. in that town I long forsook.
