350.
Communicating With
351. Your Team

352.
A very important part of any
353. multiplayer team based game is communication. Letting
354. your teammates know where you are and what you are doing
355. is an essential part of teamwork.

356.
Q2CTF has a basic team
357. communication called "say_team" or
358. "messagemode2". It is like the regular
359. communication of Quake2, but you need to bind a key in
360. order to use it. I use the <R> key myself, since
361. its right beside the normal <T> key used for
362. communication. To bind it, use the following:

363.

bind r
364. "messagemode2"

365.
When you want to say a message to
366. your team, just hit <R> and type it in. This image
367. shows me telling what I'm doing to my team:

368.
<img
369. src="say_team.gif" alt="(Zoid): At base, defending"
370. width="462" height="32">

371.
Note the parenthesis around my
372. name. This indicates it is a team message and only people
373. on your team saw it.

374.
Now, normally I don't type a lot of
375. my team messages, I have several standard messages I use
376. to communicate with my teammates. They are bound to
377. several keys like so:

378.

bind z "say_team Base
379. secure"
380. bind x "say_team Base overrun! Recover"
381. bind c "say_team Incoming!"
382. bind v "say_team I'm going offensive"
383. bind g "say_team Going to base"
384. bind b "say_team At base, defending"

385.
So when I want to say "At
386. base, defending" to my teammates, I just hit my
387. <B> key to do so. This is much faster than typing
388. it out all the time.

389.
Q2CTF also features some advanced
390. options for communicating to your teammates. This feature
391. is called "auto macros". It lets you configure
392. generic messages that will automatically be filled in as
393. necessary. Here's an example.

394.

bind f "say_team I'm %L,
395. %H and %A, and have %T."

396.
That looks kind of cryptic, but
397. here's what happens when I hit the F key I bound that
398. say_team to:

399.
<img
400. src="automac.gif" width="590" height="62">

401.
What this means is each of the %
402. macros in the say_team are automatically changed into
403. something specific to the situation. In this case, the %L
404. changes to a description of my current location, %H
405. changes to how much health I have, %A changes to indicate
406. how much armor I have and %T changes to indicate what
407. TECH Powerup I'm carrying.
