title: Introduction to hacking - Choosing a distribution show-content: 1

layout: console

A Linux distribution (also known as distro) is the Linux kernel ( - central component of an operating system - ) plus a collection of applications. If you are a beginner to Linux, I would suggest starting with Ubuntu as your first Linux distribution. It is simple to install and very user friendly. You can discover more distributions in http://distrowatch.com, there are a lot.

Note: I won't guide the installation process as there are a lot of resources and videos online, I feel it is uneccessary.
