The resources layout is, as far as I know, quite much default. For older devices, a "static" icon and a "staric round" icon must be included.
At the repository's root, there is the file icon.svg which you can use for this purpose. The rounded corners in this file are not intentional and may be removed.

Adaptive icons would help users with modern Android versions to customize the appearance of the icon on their home screen.
To my knowledge, the app icon is already an adaptive icon.
