  49. <STRONG>#include</STRONG> <STRONG>&lt;menu.h&gt;</STRONG>
  50. int set_menu_pattern(MENU *menu, const char *pattern);
  51. char *menu_pattern(const MENU *menu);
  52. </PRE>
  53. <H2>DESCRIPTION</H2><PRE>
  54. Every menu has an associated pattern match buffer. As
  55. input events that are printable characters come in, they
  56. are appended to this match buffer and tested for a match,
  57. as described in <STRONG><A HREF="menu_driver.3x.html">menu_driver(3x)</A></STRONG>.
  58. The function <STRONG>set_menu_pattern</STRONG> sets the pattern buffer for
  59. the given menu and tries to find the first matching item.
  60. If it succeeds, that item becomes current; if not, the
  61. current item does not change.
  62. The function <STRONG>menu_pattern</STRONG> returns the pattern buffer of
  63. the given <EM>menu</EM>.
  64. </PRE>
  65. <H2>RETURN VALUE</H2><PRE>
  66. The function <STRONG>menu_pattern</STRONG> returns a pointer, which is <STRONG>NULL</STRONG>
  67. if the <EM>menu</EM> parameter is <STRONG>NULL</STRONG>. Otherwise, it is a pointer
  68. to a string which is empty if no pattern has been set. It
  69. does not set errno.
  70. The function <STRONG>set_menu_pattern</STRONG> may return the following
  71. error codes:
  72. <STRONG>E_OK</STRONG> The routine succeeded.
  73. <STRONG>E_BAD_ARGUMENT</STRONG>
  74. Routine detected an incorrect or out-of-range argu-
  75. ment.
  76. <STRONG>E_BAD_STATE</STRONG>
  77. Routine was called from an initialization or termina-
  78. tion function.
  79. <STRONG>E_NOT_CONNECTED</STRONG>
  80. No items are connected to menu.
  81. <STRONG>E_NO_MATCH</STRONG>
  82. Character failed to match.
  83. <STRONG>E_SYSTEM_ERROR</STRONG>
  84. System error occurred (see <STRONG>errno</STRONG>).
