  52. <H2>DESCRIPTION</H2><PRE>
  53. This function uses the <STRONG>mc5p</STRONG> or <STRONG>mc4</STRONG> and <STRONG>mc5</STRONG> capabilities,
  54. if they are present, to ship given data to a printer
  55. attached to the terminal.
  56. Note that the <STRONG>mcprint</STRONG> code has no way to do flow control
  57. with the printer or to know how much buffering it has.
  58. Your application is responsible for keeping the rate of
  59. writes to the printer below its continuous throughput rate
  60. (typically about half of its nominal cps rating). Dot-
  61. matrix printers and 6-page-per-minute lasers can typically
  62. handle 80cps, so a good conservative rule of thumb is to
  63. sleep for a second after shipping each 80-character line.
  64. </PRE>
  65. <H2>RETURN VALUE</H2><PRE>
  66. The <STRONG>mcprint</STRONG> function returns <STRONG>ERR</STRONG> if the write operation
  67. aborted for some reason. In this case, errno will contain
  68. either an error associated with <STRONG>write(2)</STRONG> or one of the
  69. following:
  70. ENODEV
  71. Capabilities for printer redirection do not exist.
  72. ENOMEM
  73. Couldn't allocate sufficient memory to buffer the
  74. printer write.
  75. When <STRONG>mcprint</STRONG> succeeds, it returns the number of characters
  76. actually sent to the printer.
  77. </PRE>
  78. <H2>PORTABILITY</H2><PRE>
  79. The <STRONG>mcprint</STRONG> call was designed for <STRONG><A HREF="ncurses.3x.html">ncurses(3x)</A></STRONG>, and is not
  80. found in SVr4 curses, 4.4BSD curses, or any other previous
  81. version of curses.
  82. </PRE>
  83. <H2>BUGS</H2><PRE>
  84. Padding in the <STRONG>mc5p</STRONG>, <STRONG>mc4</STRONG> and <STRONG>mc5</STRONG> capabilities will not be
  85. interpreted.
