  59. <H2>DESCRIPTION</H2><PRE>
  60. The <STRONG>bkgrndset</STRONG> and <STRONG>wbkgrndset</STRONG> routines manipulate the back-
  61. ground of the named window. The window background is a
  62. <STRONG>cchar_t</STRONG> consisting of any combination of attributes (i.e.,
  63. rendition) and a complex character. The attribute part of
  64. the background is combined (OR'ed) with all non-blank
  65. characters that are written into the window with <STRONG>waddch</STRONG>.
  66. Both the character and attribute parts of the background
  67. are combined with the blank characters. The background
  68. becomes a property of the character and moves with the
  69. character through any scrolling and insert/delete
  70. line/character operations.
  71. To the extent possible on a particular terminal, the
  72. attribute part of the background is displayed as the
  73. graphic rendition of the character put on the screen.
  74. The <STRONG>bkgrnd</STRONG> and <STRONG>wbkgrnd</STRONG> functions set the background prop-
  75. erty of the current or specified window and then apply
  76. this setting to every character position in that window:
  77. The rendition of every character on the screen is
  78. changed to the new background rendition.
  79. Wherever the former background character appears,
  80. it is changed to the new background character.
  81. The <STRONG>getbkgrnd</STRONG> function returns the given window's current
  82. background character/attribute pair via the <STRONG>wch</STRONG> pointer.
  83. </PRE>
  84. <H2>NOTES</H2><PRE>
  85. Note that <STRONG>bkgrnd</STRONG>, <STRONG>bkgrndset</STRONG>, and <STRONG>getbkgrnd</STRONG> may be macros.
  86. </PRE>
  87. <H2>RETURN VALUES</H2><PRE>
  88. The <STRONG>bkgrndset</STRONG> and <STRONG>wbkgrndset</STRONG> routines do not return a
  89. value.
  90. Upon successful completion, the other functions return <STRONG>OK</STRONG>.
  91. Otherwise, they return <STRONG>ERR</STRONG>. A null window pointer is
  92. treated as an error.
