  60. <H2>DESCRIPTION</H2><PRE>
  61. The <STRONG>add_wch</STRONG>, <STRONG>wadd_wch</STRONG>, <STRONG>mvadd_wch</STRONG>, and <STRONG>mvwadd_wch</STRONG> functions
  62. put the complex character <EM>wch</EM> into the given window at its
  63. current position, which is then advanced. These functions
  64. perform wrapping and special-character processing as fol-
  65. lows:
  66. - If <EM>wch</EM> refers to a spacing character, then any previ-
  67. ous character at that location is removed. A new
  68. character specified by <EM>wch</EM> is placed at that location
  69. with rendition specified by <EM>wch</EM>. The cursor then
  70. advances to the next spacing character on the screen.
  71. - If <EM>wch</EM> refers to a non-spacing character, all previ-
  72. ous characters at that location are preserved. The
  73. non-spacing characters of <EM>wch</EM> are added to the spac-
  74. ing complex character, and the rendition specified by
  75. <EM>wch</EM> is ignored.
  76. - If the character part of <EM>wch</EM> is a tab, newline,
  77. backspace or other control character, the window is
  78. updated and the cursor moves as if <STRONG>addch</STRONG> were called.
  79. The <STRONG>echo_wchar</STRONG> function is functionally equivalent to a
  80. call to <STRONG>add_wch</STRONG> followed by a call to <STRONG>refresh</STRONG>. Similarly,
  81. the <STRONG>wecho_wchar</STRONG> is functionally equivalent to a call to
  82. <STRONG>wadd_wch</STRONG> followed by a call to <STRONG>wrefresh</STRONG>. The knowledge
  83. that only a single character is being output is taken into
  84. consideration and, for non-control characters, a consider-
  85. able performance gain might be seen by using the *<STRONG>echo</STRONG>*
  86. functions instead of their equivalents.
  87. </PRE>
  88. <H2>RETURN VALUES</H2><PRE>
  89. All routines return the integer <STRONG>ERR</STRONG> upon failure and <STRONG>OK</STRONG> on
  90. success.
  91. </PRE>
  92. <H2>NOTES</H2><PRE>
  93. Note that <STRONG>add_wch</STRONG>, <STRONG>mvadd_wch</STRONG>, <STRONG>mvwadd_wch</STRONG>, and <STRONG>echo_wchar</STRONG>
  94. may be macros.
  95. </PRE>
  96. <H2>PORTABILITY</H2><PRE>
  97. All these functions are described in the XSI Curses stan-
  98. dard, Issue 4. The defaults specified for forms-drawing
  99. characters apply in the POSIX locale.
  100. XSI documents constants beginning with <STRONG>WACS_</STRONG> which are
  101. used for line-drawing. Those are not currently imple-
  102. mented in <STRONG>ncurses</STRONG>.
