47. form_field_new - create and destroy form fields

49.
SYNOPSIS

50. #include <form.h>
51. FIELD *new_field(int height, int width,
52. int toprow, int leftcol,
53. int offscreen, int nbuffers);
54. FIELD *dup_field(FIELD *field, int toprow, int leftcol);
55. FIELD *link_field(FIELD *field, int toprow, int leftcol);
56. int free_field(FIELD *field);
57.

58.
DESCRIPTION

59. The function new_field allocates a new field and initial-
60. izes it from the parameters given: height, width, row of
61. upper-left corner, column of upper-left corner, number
62. off-screen rows, and number of additional working buffers.
63. The function dup_field duplicates a field at a new loca-
64. tion. Most attributes (including current contents, size,
65. validation type, buffer count, growth threshold, justifi-
66. cation, foreground, background, pad character, options,
67. and user pointer) are copied. Field status and the field
68. page bit are not copied.
69. The function link_field acts like dup_field, but the new
70. field shares buffers with its parent. Attribute data is
71. separate.
72. The function free_field de-allocates storage associated
73. with a field.
74.

75.
RETURN VALUE

76. The function, new_field, dup_field, link_field return NULL
77. on error. They set errno according to their success:
78. E_OK The routine succeeded.
79. E_BAD_ARGUMENT
80. Routine detected an incorrect or out-of-range argu-
81. ment.
82. E_SYSTEM_ERROR
83. System error occurred, e.g., malloc failure.
84. The function free_field returns one of the following:
85. E_OK The routine succeeded.
86. E_BAD_ARGUMENT
87. Routine detected an incorrect or out-of-range argu-
88. ment.
89. E_CONNECTED
90. field is connected.

95.
NOTES

96. The header file <form.h> automatically includes the header
97. file <curses.h>.
98.

99.
PORTABILITY

100. These routines emulate the System V forms library. They
101. were not supported on Version 7 or BSD versions.
102. It may be unwise to count on the set of attributes copied
103. by dup_field being portable; the System V forms library
104. documents are not very explicit about what gets copied and
105. what does not.
