  63. <H2>DESCRIPTION</H2><PRE>
  64. These routines copy <EM>chstr</EM> into the window image structure
  65. at and after the current cursor position. The four rou-
  66. tines with <EM>n</EM> as the last argument copy at most <EM>n</EM> elements,
  67. but no more than will fit on the line. If <STRONG>n</STRONG>=<STRONG>-1</STRONG> then the
  68. whole string is copied, to the maximum number of charac-
  69. ters that will fit on the line.
  70. The window cursor is <EM>not</EM> advanced, and these routines work
  71. faster than <STRONG>waddnstr</STRONG>. On the other hand, they do not per-
  72. form any kind of checking (such as for the newline,
  73. backspace, or carriage return characters), they do not ad-
  74. vance the current cursor position, they do not expand oth-
  75. er control characters to ^-escapes, and they truncate the
  76. string if it crosses the right margin, rather than wrap-
  77. ping it around to the new line.
  78. </PRE>
  79. <H2>RETURN VALUES</H2><PRE>
  80. All routines return the integer <STRONG>ERR</STRONG> upon failure and <STRONG>OK</STRONG> on
  81. success (the SVr4 manuals specify only "an integer value
  82. other than <STRONG>ERR</STRONG>") upon successful completion, unless other-
  83. wise noted in the preceding routine descriptions.
  84. X/Open does not define any error conditions. This imple-
  85. mentation returns an error if the window pointer is null.
  86. </PRE>
  87. <H2>NOTES</H2><PRE>
  88. Note that all routines except <STRONG>waddchnstr</STRONG> may be macros.
  89. </PRE>
  90. <H2>PORTABILITY</H2><PRE>
  91. These entry points are described in the XSI Curses stan-
  92. dard, Issue 4.
