The other noticeable issue I notice in GnuSocial is a lack of images for hyperlinks, hyperlinks should automatically bring in the page's foremost image if there is one. While some might prefer a text-based appearance, there are probably not as many as those which would prefer a visual feed with pictures.

I remember there was discussion on how to best handle this some time ago in the XMPP chat. I do believe this is something that is, or has already been worked in. Stay tuned for the v3 rewrite.

That should work out of the box. What do you get when you run "scripts/setconfig.php -a | grep thumbnail" ?
