Ran v1.20.x, then master, then nightly and with all of them the order of the notices of network public timeline are showed reversed, old ones first.
Switched to 1.2.0-beta5 from gnu.io and order is ok, new ones first.
All tests done with the very same database so seems there is something wrong in the code of diogo/gnu-social.

Couldn't reproduce. Can you share more information on this? A longer network public feed screenshot (including URL), page load related GS logs (with Log Debug enabled) and a list of enabled plugins and non-default config.php settings.

Switched back to v1.20.x directori and copied all file/ and avatar/ content to here.
Now can't reproduce it, it works as expected. Strange thing.
Closing this issue, let's see what happen after a while.
Thanks Diogo!
