Going off the attached redesign mock-up and input from rainydaysavings & diogo.
Filters as drop down menus, with multiple columns when necessary as to avoid scrollbars, and check boxes to select which shows up in that feed or directory view.
I was informed by diogo that ActivityPub has these actor types: people, organization, application.
I propose requiring organizations to set at least one profile tag. Maybe have a choice of artist, business, organization, and then allow additional profile tags to be set. Pre-fill the entry box with examples such as band, genres, non-profit, retail, digital artist, etc. Those could change depending on previous choice. This also separates group notices for convenience and brings them one step closer to forums (which they should not be, ever. That's what phpbb is for.)

(drop down menu should probably stay the same between timelines to be consistent. Exception for lists to remain consistent with layout of major category followed by sub-category with drop-down filter as users can craft their lists to their liking (i.e. account which may post undesired amount of X can simply be put on a different list.)

This is more for keeping things organized on the site. Filtering and sorting.
As far as actor types... I'm not quite sure but, again, the main thing is being able to sort out what people see in the timelines and their subscriber/subscribed to and other lists.
I guess bands and artists would fall under group, businesses and organizations as organization.
I still think it's important to make a distinction because PETA is not the same as Coca-Cola or Johnny's Junk Store social account.
