There's already https://github.com/chimo/gs-markdown (buggy) and IIRC RainyDaySavings was saying eventually there'd be official markdown support. This is my proposal for handling it.
With the addition of highlighting text and block/quote background and organizational list (#147) background colors.
Also, see https://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faqbrowse?faqid=103 DW supports the full Markdown which is probably too much for GS but, take a look at their Rich Text Editor -- but make it easier to re-color! Or at least have a version with a #000000 background with #FFFFFF text
I mention this mainly because TFC has a Community & Spotlighted Content Blog there and Dreamwidth supports OpenID! :p
And there should be a preview tab!

I redact the stuff I said about saidit. I think after the enhancements for groups and notices, there's no reason for me to use the saidit boards. Thus, more important (to me :p) for markdown to be more consistent with phpBB and Dreamwidth.
