  1. QGIS aims to be an easy to use GIS, providing common functions and
  2. features. The initial goal was to provide a GIS data viewer, but now
  3. it also permits to edit, create and analyze lots of spatial datas.
  4. QGIS supports a number of raster and vector data formats, with new
  5. support easily added using the plugin architecture.
  6. Supported formats are :
  7. - spatially-enabled PostgreSQL tables using PostGIS.
  8. - most vector formats supported by the OGR library, including ESRI
  9. shapefiles, MapInfo, SDTS and GML.
  10. - raster formats supported by the GDAL library, such as digital
  11. elevation models, aerial photography or landsat imagery.
  12. - online spatial data served as OGC-compliant WMS or WFS.
