- <h2 id="general">General news</h2>
- <p>
- After getting up, I did some last-minute coursework, began packing for a trip.
- My mother wants us to go visit relatives today, so I needed to prepare.
- Before heading off to work, I helped Vanessa place an order on Amazon to replace the order that the Blair Candy Company is refusing to process.
- Our mother insisted that we should use Amazon Smile to place the order, due to Amazon Smile donating money to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital with every purchase.
- I don't think that my mother understands how Amazon Smile works though, as that's not what happens.
- Amazon Smile donates to whatever charity you have your account set up to donate to.
- In other words, because my mother wasn't the one to make the purchase, Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital didn't get the donation; the Electronic Frontier Foundation did, as I was the one to make the purchase.
- </p>
- <p>
- After work, I arrived home to learn that my mother's minivan had been officially totaled by the insurance company, and they received $2000 <abbr title="United States Dollars">USD</abbr> for it.
- They'd been wanting to sell the van anyway, and didn't think that they'd get even that much for it had it been still functioning.
- All in all, it was a win for my mother, though it's obviously left them without a vehicle for now, which they've found to be inconvenient, to say the least.
- </p>
- <p>
- Alyssa arrived to pick us up and bring us to Gresham so that we can go see relatives tomorrow.
- Alyssa also brought over the child of my mother's friend.
- My mother's friend had been planning to pick up their child later that night and bring them from Gresham to Springfield, so since Alyssa was making that trip anyway, they saved our mother's friend that trip.
- </p>
- <p>
- I tried to sleep on the way to Gresham, knowing that I wouldn't be getting much sleep there.
- I need to stay up and get as much laundry washed as I can while we have access to a washing machine.
- However, I don't think that I actually managed to fall asleep.
- </p>
- <p>
- Once I got a load started, I went outside to try to photograph Ozzy, the neighbor cat, only to find that Vanessa was already trying to do that while Alyssa and our mother tried to lure the cat over.
- The cat's a bit flighty though.
- I managed to get one clear photograph in which Ozzy was actually looking at the camera, but I ended up cutting the tip of the cat's ear out of the shot.
- I wasn't able to retake it though, as the car scampered away.
- </p>
- <p>
- My <a href="/a/canary.txt">canary</a> still sings the tune of freedom and transparency.
- </p>
- <h2 id="university">University life</h2>
- <p>
- I finished up my discussion posts ...
- </p>
- <blockquote>
- <p>
- It sounds like you've really impressed your boss! They've even promoted you to a position that was newly-created for you.
- It sounds like your boss is a bit paranoid.
- There are certain areas of life that one should always be paranoid about, but when it comes to managing people, you can't let that paranoia show through.
- If the employees don't think that the boss trusts them, they're going to be more distracted and less productive.
- </p>
- </blockquote>
- <blockquote>
- <p>
- I completely agree, it's important to help one another succeed.
- Success shouldn't be viewed as a competition, where one of us wins; when people look at it that way, they sabotage or mistreat one another.
- Instead, success should be achieved together, helping everyone meet the goals.
- As shown by the case study that we read this week, when everyone wins, the winnings are better for everyone.
- </p>
- </blockquote>
- <blockquote>
- <p>
- I didn't realize that the United States really exported many groceries.
- I thought that they mainly came from tropical countries.
- I guess that that would mainly apply to produce though, not all groceries.
- </p>
- <p>
- You mentioned language barriers in regards to your email communications with your clients overseas.
- Are you able to type and read in multiple languages, or do you employ a translator?
- </p>
- </blockquote>
- <p>
- ...
- then I reread my <a href="/en/coursework/BUS1101/Behavior_management_at_the_SAS_Institute.xhtml">essay</a>.
- It's a good thing that I did, too.
- I had a strange issue in the header, causing the subtitle to read "Written in <span title="Principles of Business Management">BUS 1101</span> of <a href="http://www.uopeople.edu/">University of the People</a> of <a href="http://www.uopeople.edu/">University of the People</a>, finalized on 2016-11-23".
- That would have made me look like a moron.
- The issue isn't in my template file, so I'm not sure how that bug was introduced, but I was able to fix it before handing in my paper.
- A couple of my paragraphs were out of order as well, making the wording seem strange on one of them.
- After fixing up the essay slightly, I handed it in.
- I also wrote up my response to the journal assignment:
- </p>
- <ul>
- <li><a href="/en/coursework/BUS1101/#Unit2">BUS 1101: Principles of Business Management</a></li>
- </ul>
- <p>
- <strong>*EDIT <a href="https:/en/weblog/2016/12-December/18.xhtml">Day 00652: Sunday, 2016 December 18</a>*:</strong> I've moved "learning journal" content to a separate page now, accessible from the <a href="/en/coursework/">coursework</a> section of the website.
