- <h1>A day of "repairs"</h1>
- <p>Day 00522: Wednesday, 2016 August 10</p>
- </header>
- <p>
- Much of the day was spent repairing my <a href="/en/domains/newdawn.local.xhtml"><code>//newdawn.local.</code></a> again.
- Once more, the power jack is acting up, though this time, I can't quite tell why.
- At first, I could pull the jack into a working position by tugging at the electrical tape that's sticking out of the laptop's shell.
- That fix didn't last long though, as the electrical tape kept stretching until it wasn't any good.
- I took the machine back apart to see what I could do about it this time.
- My mother came by and asked what I was doing, so I explained, and they offered solutions that I don't think would work, such as constructing new thin anchor tabs out of hard rubber.
- These would replace the broken plastic ones that are built into the case, but assuming that I could even get them attached to the case properly somehow, they'd be too pliable, especially once made so thin, to perform any sort of anchoring function.
- Unsure at all of what to do, I did take a rubber stamp to cut up, offered by my mother.
- I kind of lost track of what I was doing, so I cut it incorrectly, but I think that I made it work.
- The stamp fragment now sits between the <abbr title="compact disc">CD</abbr> drive and the power jack, pushing the two apart.
- They <abbr title="compact disc">CD</abbr> drive is securely anchored (though only by a single screw), so it basically just holds the power jack in place while using the <abbr title="compact disc">CD</abbr> drive to brace itself.
- I had to dismantle the laptop a couple more times to fix some things as I failed to connect things properly (such as the power button and the touchpad), but eventually I had <code>//newdawn.local.</code> put reassembled correctly.
- Much to my dismay though, the power jack still seems to work only sometimes.
- I'm not convinced that my "repairs" today can even be called repairs; I see no measurable improvement.
