	I tried to use the Wi-Fi access point at the corner of our block to update my mother&apos;s laptop, but the laptop couldn&apos;t connect.
	It saw the list of available access points, but after telling it to connect to one, it&apos;d just hang of a few minutes.
	The laptop was usable during this time, it just wasn&apos;t connected to the network yet.
	After several minutes had passed, the laptop would inform me that the connection attempt had failed.
	I kept trying until the battery power was nearly depleted, but it was a futile effort.
	Either the Wi-Fi dongle wasn&apos;t actually compatible with the machine or the operating system update was required not only for use with encrypted networks, but open networks as well.
</p>
<p>
	Our mother left for a teachers&apos; conference and will return on Sunday.
	While they were away, I was supposed to return the Wi-Fi dongle to the store for them, but that didn&apos;t go as planned.
	Vanessa and I searched for the receipt, but our mother&apos;d taken the receipt with them! I&apos;d need to wait until they returned with it to return the dongle or they&apos;d need to return it when they got back.
</p>
<p>
	Today should have been a very productive day, but instead, I took a break and spent most of the day loafing around.
	Near the end of the day, Vanessa and I went out to pick up sandwiches, then sat on one of the bleachers at a nearby school to enjoy eating them outside.
	We talked, and Vanessa confided in me about things that they don&apos;t feel comfortable discussing with most people, as these things have a way of finding their way back to our not-very-understanding mother.
	It&apos;s nice to know that I&apos;m one of the two people that Vanessa trusts enough to to discuss these things with.
	The other party will remain unnamed so that they aren&apos;t pressured into exposing Vanessa&apos;s secrets if this journal entry is ever read by those that would try to harm Vanessa by involving our mother.
