  1. Common issues with reportbug:
  2. EXIM IS CONFIGURED FOR LOCAL DELIVERY: In Debian 4.0 (etch) and later,
  3. exim4 is configured by default to only deliver email to addresses
  4. on your system. YOUR BUG REPORTS WILL NOT ARRIVE AT THE BUG
  5. TRACKING SYSTEM UNLESS YOU FOLLOW ONE OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS:
  6. - Reconfigure exim (using 'dpkg-reconfigure -plow exim4') to send
  7. mail to the Internet directly or via a smarthost.
  8. - Configure reportbug to deliver mail to your ISP's smarthost or
  9. reportbug.debian.org directly (using 'reportbug --configure').
  10. - Alternatively, see /usr/share/doc/reportbug/README.Users for
  11. instructions on how to use GMail's SMTP server to submit reports.
  12. EMAIL ADDRESS SETTING: See the manual page reportbug(1) for how to set
  13. your email address (i.e. the address that appears in the "From:"
  14. header), if reportbug is unable to correctly figure it out for you.
  15. Note that some mail systems will further rewrite the address
  16. displayed by reportbug when it starts.
  17. EDITORS: See the manual page reportbug(1) for how to choose an editor.
  18. You probably will want to have this setting for other tools as
  19. well. As an alternative, some mail programs, such as "mutt", can
  20. be configured to be used as the editor for your report, which you
  21. may find preferable.
  22. REPORTING: It is useful to include the full transcript of reportbug
  23. (with text ui) output, so we can see what it's trying to do and
  24. provide a faster and more precise response.
  25. GTK+ UI: There are some situation when the GTK+ stack crashes,
  26. reporting "Floating point exception" or GTK+ stack traces; those
  27. are bugs in GTK+ or misconfigurations (for example, using 'testing'
  28. suite can lead to such errors) on the current machine. Do not
  29. report bugs against reportbug in such situations but consult users
  30. support forums.
