Hi, upgraded today to latest f-droid version and found this feature enabled.

When trying to save a file first time it say me I should select a folder and displays the android file/dir chooser with "Download" as current folder - however there is no button to "use this folder". I tried to click on the "Download" but no action. Only after I clicked on a subdir in the folder and navigated back did a big "use this folder" appear.

That is bizarre. So I can use the Download directory but to select it I need this funny workaround. Not a real access restriction but plain silly.

Would it work to use the Open Intents File manager to select a directory instead of this framework if it is installed? https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.openintents.filemanager/ No, I won't miss the Android 11 file chooser.

Otherwise I would recommend to implement a workaround like creating Download/SaveTo and offer this as initial selection so people aren't confused like me.

Sorry but no. SaveTo… is application with as reduce dangerous features as possible:

  • no Internet access
  • no STORAGE permissions
  • no logs
  • any file access possible only with user's confirmation
  • no files remove or replace ability
  • supports all latest Android's security features even if creates some inconveniences.

Sorry again.
