  2. Copyright and Legal Information
  3. Date: May 22, 1998
  4. MOLMOL is a molecular graphics program for displaying, analysing, and
  5. manipulating the three-dimensional structure of biological macromolecules,
  6. with special emphasis on the study of protein or DNA structures determined
  7. by NMR. The following is legal information pertaining to the use of the
  8. MOLMOL program. It applies to all MOLMOL source files, executable (binary)
  9. files, configuration files, documentation files contained in the official
  10. MOLMOL archives. (Certain portions refer to custom versions of the
  11. software, there are specific rules listed below for these versions also.)
  12. All of these are referred to here as "the software".
  13. THIS NOTICE MUST ACCOMPANY ALL OFFICIAL OR CUSTOM MOLMOL FILES. IT MAY NOT
  14. BE REMOVED OR MODIFIED. THIS INFORMATION PERTAINS TO ALL USE OF THE PACKAGE
  15. WORLDWIDE. THIS DOCUMENT SUPERSEDES ALL PREVIOUS LICENSES OR DISTRIBUTION
  16. POLICIES.
  17. IMPORTANT LEGAL INFORMATION
  18. Permission is granted to the user to use the MOLMOL program and all
  19. associated files in this package for making calculations and creating
  20. images. The use of the software for this purpose is free. The user retains
  21. all rights to these results and may use them for any purpose commercial or
  22. noncommercial. When plots prepared by MOLMOL are used in lectures,
  23. publications or other similar occasions, then a reference to the authors
  24. and the following paper is to be made:
  25. Koradi, R., Billeter, M., and Wüthrich, K. (1996)
  26. J Mol Graphics, 14, 51-55.
  27. MOLMOL: a program for display and analysis of
  28. macromolecular structures.
  29. This software package and all of the files in this archive are copyrighted
  30. by BRUKER/Spectrospin and ETH Zurich. They may only be distributed and/or
  31. modified according to the guidelines listed below. The spirit of the
  32. guidelines below is to provide the full MOLMOL package freely to as many
  33. users as possible, prevent MOLMOL users and developers from being taken
  34. advantage of, enhance the life quality of those who come in contact with
  35. MOLMOL. This legal document was created so these goals could be realized.
  36. You are legally bound to follow these rules, but we hope you will follow
  37. them as a matter of ethics, rather than fear of litigation.
  38. No portion of this package may be separated from the package and
  39. distributed separately other than under the conditions specified in the
  40. guidelines below.
  41. This package may only be bundled in other software packages with the
  42. explicit permission of the copyright holders.
  43. This package may only be included in software compilations using media such
  44. as, but not limited to, floppy disk, CD-ROM, tape backup, optical disks,
  45. hard disks, or memory cards with the explicit permission of the copyright
  46. holders.
  47. The user is granted the privilege to modify and compile the source for
  48. their own personal use in any fashion they see fit. What you do with the
  49. software in your own home is your business.
  50. If the user wishes to distribute a modified version of the software,
  51. documentation or other parts of the package (here after referred to as
  52. a "custom version") they must follow the guidelines listed below. These
  53. guidelines have been established to promote the growth of MOLMOL and
  54. prevent difficulties for users and developers alike. Please follow them
  55. carefully for the benefit of all concerned when creating a custom version.
  56. You may not incorporate any portion of the MOLMOL source code in any
  57. software other than a custom version of MOLMOL without the explicit
  58. permission of the copyright holders. However authors who contribute source
  59. to MOLMOL may still retain all rights to use their contributed code for any
  60. purpose as described below.
  61. The user is encouraged to send enhancements and bug fixes to the MOLMOL
  62. authors, but the authors are in no way required to utilize these
  63. enhancements or fixes. By sending material to the authors, the contributor
  64. asserts that he owns the materials or has the right to distribute these
  65. materials. He authorizes the MOLMOL authors to use the materials any way
  66. they like. The contributor still retains rights to the donated material,
  67. but by donating you grant equal rights to the MOLMOL authors. The MOLMOL
  68. authors don't have to use the material, but if we do, you do not acquire
  69. any rights related to MOLMOL. We will give you credit if applicable.
  70. GENERAL RULES FOR ALL DISTRIBUTION
  71. The permission to distribute this package under certain very specific
  72. conditions is granted in advance, provided that the above and following
  73. conditions are met.
  74. These archives must not be re-archived using a different method without the
  75. explicit permission of the authors. You may rename the archives only to
  76. meet the file name conventions of your system or to avoid file name
  77. duplications but we ask that you try to keep file names as similar to the
  78. originals as possible.
  79. You must distribute a full package of archives as described in the next
  80. section.
  81. Noncommercial distribution (such as a user copying the software for a
  82. personal friend or colleague and not charging money or services for that
  83. copy) has no other restrictions. All forms of commercial distribution
  84. are only allowed with explicit permission of the copyright holders.
  85. The copyright holders reserve the right to withdraw distribution privileges
  86. from any group, individual, or organization for any reason.
  87. DEFINITION OF "FULL PACKAGE"
  88. MOLMOL is contained in 3 archives for each hardware platform. 1) An
  89. executable archive, 2) A documentation archive, 3) Source code archive.
  90. A "full package" is defined as one of the following bundle options:
  91. 1 All archives (executable, docs, source)
  92. 2 User archives (executable, docs but no source)
  93. 3 Programmer archives (source, docs but no executable)
  94. MOLMOL is officially distributed for SGI running IRIX; Sun running SunOS;
  95. IBM running AIX; and DEC running Digital UNIX. Other systems may be added
  96. in the future.
  97. Distributors need not support all platforms but for each platform you
  98. support you must distribute a full package.
  99. CONDITIONS FOR DISTRIBUTION OF ORIGINAL VERSION
  100. On-line services may distribute the MOLMOL archives under the conditions
  101. following this section.
  102. The archives must all be easily available on the service and should be
  103. grouped together in a similar on-line area.
  104. It is strongly requested that operators remove prior versions of MOLMOL to
  105. avoid user confusion and simplify or minimize our support efforts. They
  106. should also notify the MOLMOL authors so that they can be informed about
  107. new versions.
  108. The on-line service may only charge standard usage rates for the time
  109. required to download this software. A premium may not be charged for this
  110. package.
  111. CONDITIONS FOR DISTRIBUTION OF CUSTOM VERSIONS
  112. You may distribute custom compiled versions only if you comply with the
  113. following conditions. These conditions also apply to custom documentation
  114. based on our files.
  115. Mark your version clearly on all modified files stating this to be a
  116. modified and unofficial version.
  117. Make all of your modifications to MOLMOL freely and publicly
  118. available.
  119. You must provide all MOLMOL support for all users who use your custom
  120. version. The MOLMOL authors are not obligated to provide you or your users
  121. any technical support.
  122. You must provide documentation for any and all modifications that you
  123. have made to the program that you are distributing.
  124. Include clear and obvious information on how to obtain the official
  125. MOLMOL.
  126. Include contact and support information for your version. Include
  127. this information in the printMsg() funtion of the source file MolMol.c
  128. and insure that the program prominently displays this information. Include
  129. all credits and credit screens for the official version.
  130. Include a copy of this document.
  131. DISCLAIMER
  132. This software is provided as is without any guarantees or warranty.
