Changing player armor while in space messes up the space gravity.

you should also disable the glider in space (not allow use) for the same reasons. To replace its function, perhaps add a steam powered rocket that is recharged with a water bucket. This could be an item that when used, adds vertical velocity.

Disabling the glider might not be a terrible idea actually, as the atmosphere in space is probably too thin for a glider to really work well at all.

what atmosphere?
:)

however, there should be a way to get between asteroids. I think that a good compromise between the fantasy style of the server and the technology required for space is to use a steampunk style rocket

Well I mean technically there is something surrounding the planets in space, and in this game players don't need anything special to breath in space. Of course changing around armor messes it up too, so disabling the glider really isn't a solution to the problem.
