TMD26713 optical proximity sensor which is used as stylus detect is obsolete. One needs to replace it with a newer part (preferrable reverse compatible) or source it from the n900.

it cannot be sourced because it is an extra feature of neo900. that also means that there is no compatibility requirement.

seeking for alternative:

design requirements:

  • able to work at ~15mm range
  • in stock
  • minimum programming ( interrupt on detect)
  • any wavelength
  • low average power consumption (always on)

Place:

  • lower side of the UPPER
  • against stylus bay
  • looking at stylus bay via special aperture (will design it according to detector and LED light cones

Idea:

Stylus goes in, light path [through orifice (or suborifice 1 if 2 hole design), bounce off a stylus bay wall, back through the orifice (or suborifice 2 if 2 hole design)] is interrupted.

Ideally just 1/0 output.

5 bucks for a sensor is too much. Rule of a thumb (proposed by joerg): Cost of a feature is part sourcing cost x 3
