  1. WhiteboxTools is an advanced geospatial data analysis platform
  2. developed by Prof. John Lindsay at the University of Guelph's
  3. Geomorphometry and Hydrogeomatics Research Group. WhiteboxTools can be
  4. used to perform common geographical information systems (GIS) analysis
  5. operations, such as cost-distance analysis, distance buffering, and
  6. raster reclassification. Remote sensing and image processing tasks
  7. include image enhancement (e.g. panchromatic sharpening, contrast
  8. adjustments), image mosaicing, numerous filtering operations,
  9. simple classification (k-means), and common image transformations.
  10. WhiteboxTools also contains advanced tooling for spatial hydrological
  11. analysis (e.g. flow-accumulation, watershed delineation, stream
  12. network analysis, sink removal), terrain analysis (e.g. common terrain
  13. indices such as slope, curvatures, wetness index, hillshading;
  14. hypsometric analysis; multi-scale topographic position analysis),
  15. and LiDAR data processing. LiDAR point clouds can be interrogated
  16. (LidarInfo, LidarHistogram), segmented, tiled and joined, analyized
  17. for outliers, interpolated to rasters (DEMs, intensity images), and
  18. ground-points can be classified or filtered. WhiteboxTools is not
  19. a cartographic or spatial data visualization package; instead it is
  20. meant to serve as an analytical backend for other data visualization
  21. software, mainly GIS.
