  1. SeaView is a multiplatform, graphical user interface for multiple
  2. sequence alignment and molecular phylogeny. Important features are:
  3. 1) SeaView reads and writes various file formats (NEXUS, MSF, CLUSTAL,
  4. FASTA, PHYLIP, MASE, Newick) of DNA and protein sequences and of
  5. phylogenetic trees.
  6. 2) SeaView drives programs muscle or Clustal Omega (clustalo) for
  7. multiple sequence alignment, and also allows to use any external
  8. alignment algorithm able to read and write FASTA-formatted files.
  9. 3) Seaview drives the Gblocks program to select blocks of
  10. evolutionarily conserved sites.
  11. 4) SeaView computes phylogenetic trees by
  12. a) parsimony, using PHYLIP's dnapars/protpars algorithm
  13. b) distance, with NJ or BioNJ algorithms on a variety of
  14. evolutionary distances,
  15. c) maximum likelihood, driving program PhyML 3.1.
  16. 5) SeaView prints and draws phylogenetic trees on screen, SVG, PDF or
  17. PostScript files.
  18. 6) SeaView allows to download sequences from EMBL/GenBank/UniProt
  19. using the Internet.
