  18. cp437 **command** [*arg* [*arg* ...]]
  19. DESCRIPTION
  20. ===========
  21. cp437 is a program to emulate an old-style "code page 437" / "IBM-PC"
  22. character set terminal on a modern terminal emulator that uses UTF-8
  23. or similar.
  24. It was written for the purpose of running the BitchX IRC client, which utilises
  25. CP437 line-drawing characters in its default theme and artwork. It should
  26. also be broadly useful for things like viewing CP437 "ANSI art", running
  27. nethack with the IBMgraphics option or running EPIC with scripts that use CP437
  28. artwork.
  29. It takes no command line options. The only arguments are the command to run
  30. and its arguments (if any).
  31. You'll need to have your LANG or LC_CTYPE environment variable
  32. set up to match the character set used by your terminal
  33. emulator. On Slackware, this can be done system-wide by editing
  34. **/etc/profile.d/lang.sh**, or by editing your shell's startup scripts
  35. (e.g. **~/.bash_profile**).
  36. EXAMPLES
  37. ========
  38. Just run cp437 followed by the command and argument you want to run:
  39. cp437 BitchX irc.efnet.org
  40. To convert a text file from codepage 437, you might try:
  41. cp437 cat orig.txt > converted.txt
