very very necessary. according to swiftgeek, libreboot-paper has integration for uboot, but it doesn't matter if not. i can figure it out myself.
those rockchip platforms use google's depthcharge bootloader, which is crap (barely works for anything except chromeOS, and has so many wicked design flaws, especially that boot.img concept for kernels)
