this is openbsd's own kexec-like thing, for bootstrapping an openbsd kernel from another kernel. hyperbola wants to do something with it, similar to u-root and heads, but for openbsd. very cool stuff. i hope they go ahead with it
putting this here just as a reminder
see: https://man.openbsd.org/octboot

they have this roadmap here, for switching their project to be based on openbsd instead of gnu+linux. see:
<https://www.hyperbola.info/news/announcing-hyperbolabsd-roadmap/>
I'll have to check on when they think 1.0 will be out, let alone their version of coreboot will be out, etc...
Just a heads up, not sure if they are thinking of using octboot as their bootloader for their fork, otherwise, you are correct though.
And yes, I highly agree, it does sound cool. Best wishes on osboot release coming out soon, even if its beta. :)
Actually, you were right, one of the devs thought this wasn't the case...
But it appears that is a future plan.
Although, it won't be till much, much later...
Aka, after 4.0 oh HyperbolaBSD comes out, at least thats what I gathered from looking here:
https://wiki.hyperbola.info/doku.php?id=en:contrib:hyperbola_roadmap
My bad... sorry bout that.
Although, I am not sure when that is going to happen, due to this:
