I hardware modded a QX9300 into my T500. (Works fine on stock firmware)
According to the Thread linked in the T500 instruction on libreboot.org ( https://thinkpad-forum.de/threads/199129-Core2-Quad-mit-Coreboot-Libreboot-auf-T500-(-wahrsch-auch-T400)-benutzen-BETA ) it should be possible to get a firmware going by changing the MAX_CPUs value from 2 to 4.
This is not the case anymore. Pulling from the git repository and rebuilding results in a black screen.
Post 27 from that thread had the same problem and resolved it by going coreboot + proprietary VGA blob.
Any way of getting it back to work with libreboot?
Try it with text mode instead of vesa. Should work.
Already tried that. Just to confirm my sanity, I tried again half an hour ago.
Neither the txtmode rom from the prebuilts, nor my own build one with MAX_CPUs 4 works. It's always just a black screen, not even the Backlight is being turned on.
Should I get my hands on a pandaboard and try to read out debug info from Linux boot?
Got an explainer from an IRC member, with great experience with the T500.
The culprit is "[...] that the coreboot make oldconfig resets max_cpus back to 2", mentioning that fixing means: "[...] to bump the coreboot version for t400/500 up to an upstream version that works".
Adding, that "[...] it's been fixed upstream for some time"
I will attempt to get behind this.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Anyone has any info about this bug?
Yes, it's solved. An edit of a config file is needed.
4months of pure QX9300 awesomeness.
Once I get home, I'll find the instruction again and post it here.
This is awesome. :) Thanks. :)
I have a T400 with quadcore cpu and high res LCD. If the quadcore cpu works with a rom from one of the howto's LCD does not, or the high res LCD works with stable libreboot(not my build) but only with dualcore cpus :) . I build one rom but it seems it bricked my laptop, so i need to get my external flasher... :) Which config needed to be changed?
Vlad, can you upload your rom? If i right, the t500 rom compatible with t400. :)
I would also be interested for the instruction if possible, thank you for your work
I wonder, if Leah would sell a libreboot device with a quad core processor if it becomes stable enough, for regular use. Would be pretty cool if possible. :)
I would need a fresh ROM too...
