looks like a non-issue (something that we don't need to look at, because it's not a bug), but posting it here anyway. i'll probably close this later

11:06 <Gimg> Hi everyone. I'd like to know whether you can help me with an issue with my librebooted Thinkpad T500. Every time I reboot the system (or I turn it off and on again) the hardware clock is 55/56 seconds early. Have you got some ideas why this happens?
11:07 <Gimg> I thought it was an issue of the internal clock battery, but the clock is ok if we do not count for those 55 seconds.
11:07 <Gimg> Thanks in advance
11:16 <Meldrix> That's a really odd bug
11:21 <Gimg> Meldrix... you make me think that it might be the battery. Do you think changing it will have some effect?
11:21 <Meldrix> Has it always been like this or has it only come on recently?
11:22 <Meldrix> Because I doubt you've exposed your system to any helium gas or cosmic rays
11:22 <Gimg> Meldrix I'm not sure as I haven't used a GUI up until recently, so it was hard to spot. I noticed it recently
11:23 <Gimg> I'm using the stable version of libreboot btw. I tried the testing one, but switched back.
11:23 <Meldrix> Any hardware mods?
11:23 <Gimg> And... no, I don't recall exposing my system to cosmic rays :D
11:23 <Meldrix> :^) I don't think many of us have a choice when it comes to random bit flips from the skies
11:24 <Meldrix> But if it's consistent then I'd recommend you try a different CMOS battery for your system
11:24 <Gimg> Meldrix... No significant ones: I might have removed the 3G/SIM module, but apart from that... I changed the heat sink
11:24 <Gimg> Meldrix It is always 55/57 seconds
11:25 <Gimg> So I think it's consistent
11:26 <Gimg> I'll try another CMOS battery. I'll ask my local electronics store for it. I'll keep you informed. Thanks a lot for your help! :)
11:28 <Meldrix> Aye, I'm scrolling through the manual to see if there's anything pertinent to your issue https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/43y6630_03.pdf
11:29 <Gimg> PS: no, I haven't removed the 3G module... Thanks for the link: I'm checking too :)
11:29 <joshaspinall> not all CMOS batteries are created equal sadly. Try a different brand to the one you currently have, or try to find the 'recommended' brand from the Laptop manufacturer
11:30 <joshaspinall> if you have access to a Multimeter, you can also check the output voltage
11:31 <Meldrix> If the issue persists I'd say you have a good chance of creating a time machine if you hook it up to a microwave
11:33 <Gimg> joshaspinall I don't know the brand of the battery: I bought the laptop used :(. Which should be the output voltage of such battery? 3v, right?
11:33 <Gimg> Meldrix I also happen to have a microwave I can disassemble at home :^D
11:34 <Meldrix> tutu-ru
11:36 <Gimg> On the manual it says I should charge the battery for more than 8 hours by connecting the AC. I also happened to change the main battery (sorry for not mentioning it before, but I sincerely forgotten about it :( )
11:37 <Gimg> So the backup battery can be charged by plugging the AC adapter for more than 8 hours... interesting
11:37 <Gimg> And the voltage of the backup is 2.5-3.2 V

12:00 <Gimg> Btw, thanks a lot to all of you. I'll keep you informed on the problem if I'm able to solve it. Bye for now
12:00 <Gimg> :)
